What started as just a hashtag in 2012, turned into a global generosity movement that takes place every year on the Tuesday after American Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday is a day that encourages people to do good and use their power of radical generosity to change the world. For some, this may be volunteering at a homeless shelter, organizing food drives, donating to mutual aid funds, spreading messages of solidarity and hope or simply donating to a cause close to their heart.
Since its founding in the United States, Giving Tuesday has expanded worldwide largely due to sharing on social media platforms using #GivingTuesday. In 2022, Giving Tuesday saw a remarkable surge in generosity, raising a staggering $3.2 billion in the United States. This International Giving Day continued to encourage people around the world to contribute to charitable causes they believe in, resulting in a significant impact on nonprofits globally. Additionally, the movement’s influence extended beyond monetary donations, encompassing donation matching and volunteering efforts. Giving Tuesday stands as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. This global day of giving has emerged as a pivotal event for nonprofits seeking to make a positive impact on their communities and the world at large. |
Giving Tuesday 2023 at Emmanuel Children's Center
Our orphanage has been running almost completely off solar power since October 2022, with the exception of a few tasks that require us to start the generator to get enough power. The children have been blessed with more electricity than most families in Bombardopolis have. It is in our prayers to some day be able to share the blessing of electricity to our school and church at Emmanuel Children's Center.
TODAY, we invite you to be a part of our Giving Tuesday Movement to raise funds for our URGENT need of two lithium batteries for our solar system. We currently have lead-acid batteries, which cost less up front, but have a shorter lifespan and require regular maintenance to keep them running properly. Our lead acid-batteries are nearing the end of their lifespan and we are praying they continue providing for the children until we can get them replaced. Without these new batteries the children at the orphanage will be without power once again.
We have received a quote for two lithium batteries at $5000. Lithium batteries are much more expensive up front, but they are maintenance-free and have a longer lifespan to match their high price tag. As well, they are more efficient in storing and using solar power. We feel lithium is the superior choice to transition to going forward to ensure the children have reliable solar power around the orphanage.
We appreciate your willingness to help us with our urgent need this Giving Tuesday, whether that be through monetary donation or helping us fundraise by spreading the word. No donation is too small, and as always 100% of your donation is tax deductible. We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We, at Emmanuel Children's Center of Bombardopolis Haiti will always honor our donor's intent, which means your donation will go directly to the intended cause.
